This is the “Jenny Heart”. They were given out at her memorial in April of 2017. Jenny's husband, Chris, thought that they would provide a nice memory for those who knew my sister. He was right. Jenny will always be in our hearts. This heart will travel with us to Africa.
Why Africa? In memory of Jenny, Chris was trying to think of a way that he and their three boys could help people in need. Through a series of connections and a feeling that this would be the perfect opportunity, Chris founded A Goal of their Own (https://www.goaloftheirown.org). It is a non-profit organization that will enable better education and healthcare for children in Malawi. It will promote international friendships through the exchange of friendship bracelets and eventually, the exchange of letters or pictures with pen pals. It will emphasize the need for nature conservation. All this will be done through the game of soccer (football). It is a game loved by Chris, the boys and the children of Malawi.
Friendship bracelets Made by Compassion in Action Club Rolling Hills Middle School students in Campbell, CA. Special thanks to Amarisa Gombis and Suzanne Reese. Many were also made by fourth grade students at Sleepy Hollow Elementary School in Orinda, CA. Thank you to my daughter, Elaina.
Find Peace Project: Find and spread peace one stone at a time. These will be placed in various places in Africa - to be found and spread around the world. Thank you to Evelyn Chu, my friend and co-worker.
Who is Jenny? Jenny is a daughter, sister, wife, mom, aunt, niece, cousin and friend of many. She was funny, caring and thoughtful. She was never afraid to speak her mind. She was a part of many special memories. She left this world on February 17, 2017 after a hard fight against cancer. She would be proud that Chris and the boys are going to Malawi to help children and to explore other areas of Africa. Dale and I are honored that we get to join them on this wonderful journey.
I hope to post our travels as we go.
I am new at blogging so this is trial and error!
