A Visit to Zomba, Malawi

Today, we drove about an hour from Blantyre to Zomba.  It was the capatal of Malawi years ago. It remains a small town with many of the people harvesting wood from the Zomba Plateau where we had a nice hike.  We came across quite a few women and young girls carrying sticks or boards on their heads. Most were barefoot and dressed in traditional clothing . They had to walk miles to the village along a rocky, muddy road which eventually turned into a curvy paved road.  They must do this daily.  I was in awe!
We had a wet, muddy hike ( sans the head bundles) and enjoyed the waterfalls!

We are seeing so much more than we can photograph. Dale and I got in trouble for taking pictures of a school on a hill above a field.  Turns out prisoners were tending the field. An angry warden with a gun appeared quickly and our driver had to explain that we were taking pictures of the school. Would have been nice to have been warned!  Thinking that I should not share that picture yet!  Also, on our drive , it was fun to see people going about their daily routine but awkward to get out and take pictures. There were men and young boys selling roasted mice on a stick (micekabobs?).
