Last Days in the Timbavati, Kruger National Park

On July 26, we traveled by van for two hours past little towns and villages to the Timbavati area of Kruger National Park.  We arrived at Tanda Tula Safari Camp for another unique and wonderful experience.  We enjoyed our last few days in Africa here.

"Glamping"  (glamorous tent camping) at its best:

We had to use carabiners to fasten the tent flaps so that the monkeys could not unzip and steal our things.  D forgot one afternoon when he went to take a shower (in the outdoor shower) and two monkeys had unzipped and were staring at him from the tent entrance!

More animals to see:

Those elephants      https://youtu.be/-Sm9fWmjpIA    kept coming!

The evening of the full lunar eclipse, Tanda Tula staff had a little celebrations for us at a watering hole. There were food, drinks, lanterns, the sunset and the moonrise!

A final early morning drive.

Breakfast in the bush!

A walk with Chad (and his gun)!

Afrikaan game:  Spitting impala poop.  Go for the distance!

Learning to use the toothbrush bush.

They call this plant "the toilet paper bush" for a reason.

Mr. Chameleon watching the sunrise.

Good -bye Africa.  You will be missed!

Final peace stone left at Tanda Tula, Timbavati, Kruger National Park.

Three days in Sabi Sand, Kruger National Park.

July 23rd!  Today, we flew from Johannesburg to Skukuza airport in the Sabi Sand area of Kruger National Park.  It is in the Northeast Province of South Africa, not far from Mozambique.  We were greeted by our friend Ekson (who turned out to be our tracker on each safari drive we did) and driven about 15 minutes to Kirkman's Kamp Lodge.  We had a fantastic experience here.  The people, the accommodations and the animals made our stay special.  These are some highlights!

Tiny Skukuza airport!

in the bush.  What a memory:)

                                          Watching the sunrise every morning!

And not feeling tired after watching the sunrise every morning.

Getting stuck in the river bed for an hour and then spotting leopards and lions immediately after!

And the animals!

Baboons are very cranky but fun to watch.  We missed the big fight right next to the jeep because we were so fascinated that we forgot to take pictures or videos:
